The University of London is unlike many other universities. It consists of 18 independent member institutions with outstanding global reputations and several prestigious central academic bodies and activities.  Within the University, Senate House Library has outstanding humanities and social science research collections of national importance. As the central library for the University of London, and the home library for the School of Advanced Study, it facilitates and supports research excellence.

About the role

We are excited to present a new opportunity as Library Assistant within our Senate House Library – a role that will work closely alongside the Metadata & Discovery team and the Space & Collection Management team.  This is a key support position where you will assist in collection management and rationalisation projects, undertaking the physical and electronic works required for the ongoing management of the Library’s printed collections.  The role involves both desk-based work activities at a PAC or laptop as well as physical work accessing and re-locating Library materials.

We are interested in meeting candidates with proven knowledge and practical experience of a major library management system, coupled with knowledge and practical experience of relevant cataloguing and classification standards (including MARC21, AACR2, and LCSH).  You will have sound numeracy and literacy skills coupled with a methodical and highly detailed approach to your work, ensuring accuracy in every task that you undertake.  Proven technical skills and on-line operations experience, coupled with your ability to suggest and implement system changes and improvements in a library collection setting, will round off your profile.
