Current academic staff and postgraduate research students at UK universities
Current academic staff (excluding retired and emeritus staff) and postgraduate research students (for example, PhD and MPhil) at UK universities in receipt of HEFCE funding are entitled to free annual reference membership. Those with a valid SCONUL Access card (Band A)* are also entitled to a 4 book borrowing allowance. Please note – documentary evidence stating your student or faculty status within the institution is also required, along with photographic ID and proof of address.

Other categories of students at UK universities
Students and staff with SCONUL Access Bands B* and C* at UK universities in receipt of HEFCE funding, are eligible to join Senate House Library for 3 months, 6 months or 1 year. This membership includes a 10 book borrowing allowance. Please note – a valid university ID card or a letter from your academic department is required as evidence of student status along with photographic ID and proof of address.
Short-term memberships are also available.
* MA/MSC/MRes level students are SCONUL Band B. Information about SCONUL access.
If you have previously registered with the Library as a member of a UK University and are still a member of that University, you can renew your Library membership by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org a copy of your current University ID card. We will then contact you to arrange payment via the University of London Online Store.
