My name is Grace Beckett, I am the Senior Cataloguer in the Metadata team. Although I have experience in cataloguing and classifying in most subjects including material in the major European languages, I am now responsible for cataloguing and classifying the English Collection. Besides this I am also responsible for training new or current Metadata team staff, quality checking work of our Metadata team members (although, I secretly call them our most experienced professional cataloguers) and of our processing team, as well as helping with regular and project work where possible.
I do enjoy cataloguing and, where possible, if I know of any library users who have an interest in a particular subject (especially research academics), I will inform them of any new acquisitions obtained by the Library’s Research Librarians.
Some years ago I read most of Jane Austen’s novels, and also enjoy reading other fictional works especially crime and horror stories like Stephen King's writings (from his first publication Carrie in 1974 to some of his most recent works). I have recently reserved his autobiography On writing : a memoir of the craft from our United States Collection, which looks like a good read; as well as Agatha Christie: first lady of crime. Another writer I enjoy reading is Samuel “Sam" Selvon, the Trinidadian born novelist. The Lonely Londoners is one of my favourite novels by this author.
