Connecting to WiFi with Windows 8 / Windows 10

Some users have reported problems connecting to the uol-open network with Windows 10. If you are unable to connect with Windows 10, please visit the Service desk on the 4th floor and obtain the daily password that will allow you to connect to the uol-conference network instead. We hope to rectify this issue as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.

To connect Windows 8 / Windows 10 to uol-open use the instructions below.

 

Quick Connect:

  1. Hover over the right side of the screen and select ‘Settings’
  2. Go to ‘Networks’ and tap/click on uol-open
  3. When asked enter your username enter your membership number and your  password is your surname in lowercase.

 

Connect Manually

  1. From the new Metro Start screen press Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the wireless icon in the bottom right of the desktop and select “Open Network and Sharing Centre”.
  3. Select “Setup a new connection or network”.
  4. Select “Manually connect to a wireless network” and click ‘Next’.
  5. Enter the following details:Network name: uol-open
  6. Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
  7. Encryption type: AES
  8. Click ‘Next’.
  9. Click ‘Change connection settings’.
  10. Select the ‘Security tab’.
  11. Click ‘Settings’.
  12. Untick the box labelled ‘Connect to these servers’.
  13. Click ‘Advanced Settings’.
  14. Tick the box labelled ‘Specify authentication mode’ and select ‘User authentication’ from the drop down menu.
  15. Click ‘OK’, ‘OK’ again and ‘Close’

 

You are now ready to connect.

  1. Click on the wireless signal icon in the bottom right of the desktop.
  2. Select ‘uol-open’ and press ‘Connect’.
  3. When asked enter your username enter your membership number and your  password is your surname in lowercase.
  4. Click ‘OK’.

You should now be connected to the uol-open wireless network.
