Advice on Library study space during this busy period

At this time of year, with end of term approaching, we experience a huge demand for Study Space. If you are planning to visit Senate House Library over the next few weeks, we’ve put together the following advice to help make the most of study place and try and accommodate all our many Library members and visitors.

  • The early bird catches the worm – we are often reaching capacity by 12 noon so we advise you to arrive as early as possible. Our opening hours can be found here but please check the homepage and social media for the very latest updates on the day.
  • Be smart about desk space – if you are away from your desk for more than 40 minutes, please ensure you take your personal items with you and please refrain from reserving places for other members who haven’t arrived yet, during this busy time. This helps to keep Library traffic flowing! There is study space available on all floors of the Library (4th-7th floors) – take a look at our floor plans to discover all spaces in the Library.
  • Avoid the crowds – we expect to have high demand for desk space until at least the end of May/early June so if you don’t have an imminent deadline, you can take books out on loan and use desk space elsewhere. We also offer private study carrels for hire, to help you focus without distraction.
