The Dream Becomes Reality

Senate House Lipary’s latest exhibition and season of events opens on 3 October - Utopia and Dystopia: Dreaming the Future.

This exhibition will mark the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More’s Utopia in December 1516 and will draw upon Senate House Library’s rich and wide-ranging collections to explore how humankind has dreamed and experimented with the concept of the perfect society.

Features of the exhibition will be located primarily on the 4th floor of Senate House in the library, while further items will be on display on the first floor and Room 101.

There is also an exciting and diverse range of free events for everyone to get involved in. Highlights include our series of Utopian film nights, a vintage gaming workshop, a graffiti street art session as part of the Being Human Festival, and a keynote lecture from Gregory Claeys, professor of the History of Political Thought at Royal Holloway. These events are open to all staff and members of the public and are all free! All we ask is that you book to register your interest.

The full programme of events can be found in our events calendar.

We look forward to seeing you in the library!
