We’re installing new self-service kiosks and creating some breakout space, following feedback from the users in recent surveys.
We’re also introducing RFID tagging to our stock so we can bring in new self-service kiosks that will speed up book issues and returns ready for the new term. To do this we are removing the old self-service kiosks on Friday 3 August 2018. In the meantime, all issue and return of items will be through staff at the issue desk.
You also asked us to create more reading room space in the Periodicals Room, without disturbing the relaxed atmosphere – so we’re moving a few of the sofas out to create a new break-out space near the fourth floor Enquiries point/Issue desk and introducing more traditional desks with additional seating in the Periodicals Room.
To make these improvements on the fourth floor, there may be disruption to our normal services, particularly between Wednesday 1st and Friday 10th August, but we will try to keep these to a minimum and avoid peak times.
Later in the year we will introduce new loanable laptops to replace the existing stock, and will continue to work on new ways of improving our services based on your feedback, ideas and suggestions.
